First, find out who your competitors are and evaluate what they are doing. Conducting even a very minor evaluation may give you ideas you hadn't thought of. Even a simple Google search could give you valuable information. Where does their name pop up? How many times? Who's linking to them? Info like this is available for free through the search engines. If you want to get more sophisticated with your research, look into getting free analysis software. There are a bunch of 'em out there. WebCEO is a good one to take a look at.
One of the least understood aspects of internet sales is that it isn't a "build it and they will come" environment. A "brick and mortar" store can be relatively confident that people who come in will generally buy something. Unless you are selling gold bars for a buck, only a very small percentage of those visiting a website will ever buy. There are ways to change this, however.
The crucial aspect of internet sales is to set yourself apart from the rest of your competitors. There are a number of ways to do this. Again, checking out your competition is a good way to start. By far the best method is to begin creating a list of people who have visited your site. Once you started to put your list together, begin to create a relationship with them. People will always buy from those they know and those they trust. This is the absolute heart of selling through the internet. |
Hey thanks for the advice as far as my comp. i have looked at them a few times and i dont know how to make my self stand out anymore than i already do. But I will start a relationship with my customer talking to them then bringing up my website. What do you think about this idea i feel kind of silly about it, anytime i run into a person with a dog or at a dog park i want to hand out my business cards but i feel funny about it and akward anyway to fix this or better approch it? i feel that they arent going to be interested...
