Definition of Success Self Motivational Tips #104 Definition of Success
What is success? That illusive yet sought after ideal that many people dedicate their lives to.
Success means different things to everyone. And it comes in degrees. For some it is a new toy, a positive bank balance, another meal, a dream home, financial independence, happy with their career, good kids, freedom of choice, and hundreds of other ideals and concepts. What does success mean to you? Do you have it? If not what will it take to achieve it? And will you feel content and satisfied when you achieve it?
Success to me is not about what we get as we travel through life but who we are becoming. You see, you will never have to worry about what you are getting in life if you will learn to focus on what you are learning and how it applies to how you are living. Success does in fact imply goals or a direction in life towards something. The value of these goals is not found in their achievement but in the journey toward them. Goals are about direction. Life is about direction. Success is about direction.
Many people say they want more success but can’t get specific about what that means for them. Success is not about money, power, fame, wisdom, but the ability to live the kind of life you chose without interference or support from others. Measuring success is also an illusive concept. How do you measure happiness, well being, health or any of the other intangible objectives that many people have as their definition of success?
The search for greater success while leaving other important issues in its wake is a mistake that many people make. What good is financial independence if you are terminally ill? What good is power if you are alone and unhappy? What good is fame if you are a prisoner to that fame?
You can never be happy where you are not, if you are not happy where you are. Reason. You have to take you with you into all of your future activities, relationships, businesses, career positions and so on.
Relax. Enjoy the process of your life. Before you know it will be over. Yes, work towards that which is important to you but be careful not to sacrifice all your present moments in the process.
