Default Pour It On

Self Motivation Tips #111
Pour It On

Many people live lives of “Quiet Desperation” according to Ralph W. Emerson. Why is this? Part of the reason is that too many people have too little going on in their life to give them a real sense of satisfaction about their challenges, accomplishments and activities. They settle for a life filled with routine, sameness and boredom. No wonder so many people are unhappy, filled with stress and grow old with little in the way of happy memories or exciting adventures other than work-work and more work.

Life is not just about work. The purpose for work is to give us a sense of satisfaction that we have contributed in some way to mankind, life and other people’s happiness, joy and success but it is also about giving us the opportunity and freedom to develop other interests that ‘round us out’ as human beings. People whose lives are only dedicated to ‘work’ ultimately discover that something is missing in their life. Now, don’t get me wrong - I love to work: to speak, write, consult and train but I also like to play and have fun. I love to - dance, read, travel, hike, sail, paint, and numerous other self-fulfilling activities. Having a lot going on in your life gives your life greater balance, joy, satisfaction and makes you a much more interesting and well rounded person. It also helps you:
  1. Have more compassion.
  2. Better manage the stressors in your life.
  3. Meet more interesting people.
  4. Contribute something more to life in general.
  5. Have more diverse and interesting memories.
  6. Look forward to each new day with passion and anticipation.
  7. Experience the thrill of knowing you have done more than most people with the time and life you were given.
  8. Lose your arrogance and ego self-centeredness about your own self-importance.
What else could you be doing with some of your free time other than working, raising a family or sleeping? I urge you to pour it on. See what else you can do, learn, try and experience. If you don’t like it after you try it, try something else but believe me your life will be far more interesting and rewarding if you have a lot more to look forward to than just work. SO - POUR IT ON and GET BUSY NOW!

You absolutely right, h'm still young but I've already worked 60 hour weeks because I love the money. But I soon realized that I wasn't happy even with all the money I had. So I ended up cutting down my hours and working towards something more fulfilling.

I think one of the problems is that people don't have the strength to do what they love. I think Donald Trump said something about this. He said something along the lines of people who try to separate business from pleasure. His advice is why not make your business more pleasurable.
